| Like some writers of letters to the MDJ, Cal Thomas ("The 2006 Choice," 6 November) is right that the U.S. faces many major threats but wrong about our history and wrong to be so fearful. This is a great nation, one that has met many challenges and will succeed again in part because it is now and always has been a secular nation. |

| It's disappointing that some of the endorsements made by the AJC's editorial board are based on how conservative a district is. Please keep in mind that many races are decided by as few as 8 percent of the qualified voters, which means that a candidate can be elected by as tiny a number as 4 1/2 percent of the voters. It seems like the editorial board is abdicating its responsibility to endorse the better candidate based on his or her personal qualities. |

| The City Grill of Atlanta was the site of a fundraising luncheon today for Steve Sinton, 6th District Congressional Candidate. Congressman Ed Towns of New York’s 10th district, Congressman John Lewis of Georgia’s 5th district, Congressional Candidate Hank Johnson of Georgia’s 4th district, along with 18 key leaders of Metro Atlanta attended the luncheon in support of Sinton. Lewis, Johnson, Sinton and Towns
“In every election, there is a surprise. |

| Let's see if I get this straight. For the past few years, all we've seen from this do-nothing Congress is blind support of the Administration's Katrina-like cronyism, corruption, and incompetence. And now the AJC telling us to "Go with (Congressional) incumbents" (Nov. 1 issue.) |

| Where is Judson Hill? That was the big question yesterday at St. Anne’s Catholic Church where the 50+ Club had its forum. |

| Faith in the American political process today resembles that of more than 30 years ago when one president resigned while his successor said: “Our long national nightmare is over.” Gerald Ford was speaking of fellow Republican Richard
Nixon but today, based on the ineptitude of our federal government and its corrupt
leaders, the nightmare has been reawakened. Consider this during the last six years of Republican
rule:
We were misled about Iraq and now find ourselves in
a war with no end. We have nearly 3,000 dead Americans and more than 20,000 wounded. |

| First, Tom Price fails to show up at two debates against Steve Sinton, sponsored by LWVGA (May 31st and October 10th). Then, last night, Matt Dollar and Judson Hill fail to show up at a forum sponsored by the PTSA's of Walton and Wheeler High Schools. What an arrogant bunch of Republican incumbents we have. |

| John Crooks was a no-show at Wheeler High School last night. He and Dr. Beth Farokhi were supposed to share the stage to discuss education issues. |

| In the AJC on Oct. 5th, Mike King wrote that Beth Farokhi is an Educator who is a Democrat, while "John Crooks is a Minister who is a Republican." So which one do you think is the better qualified? I cannot understand why Crooks "dised" the PTSA's at Wheeler and Walton last night, the very core of his constituency. |

| The Marietta Daily Journal, with plenty of help from some of its ill-informed readers like Chad Williams (letters, 4 Oct), is perpetuating big lies about school prayer. The cartoon in today’s paper (6 Oct), showing the teacher promising not to tell on students who want to pray, continues this misinformation. There is no reason at all to believe that more praying by anyone in any schools would reduce the horrific violence that occurs there—rarely. |
