Cobb County Democratic Breakfast

The food looks good. I’ll have to try it some day. Normally, I get to Los Bravos Resturant at the intersection of East West Connector and South Cobb at 8:55. I pay my $8 dollars, get some coffee, say hello to some friends, introduce myself to any strangers (looking for people in my district), listen to the announcements and speakers, go back to chatting with people I don’t get to see very often, and leave. There just isn’t a lot of time to eat.

A representative from the Georgia Democratic Party told us how the democratically elected party is starting its grassroots mission from scratch with communications, finances, everything. It sounds like fun and a lot of work. David Taylor told the group about how the J.J. dinner was coming along.

My address says Atlanta and my zip is 30339 too. I live in Cobb County near Windy Hill Rd and I-75.

President of the Cobb Democratic Women, Beverly Mcmurray, announced the CDW installation of new officers and awards banquet for April 28 at 5:00. The head of the Georgia Democratic Party Jane Kidd will be the guest speaker. Contact Beverly, if you want to go 770-426-6916 btmcmurray@comcast.net

Senator Barack Obama

Thank goodness a friend called me before the breakfast and asked if I’d like to see Barack Obama at Yellow Jacket Park on the campus of Georgia Tech after the breakfast.

I would not have thought about going other wise.

We got there a few minutes after he started speaking. Yes, he got into Harvard on his intelligence, and Harvard law School, and yes, he was the elected to the Harvard Law Review. There were about 20-22,000 people but no teleprompter. He is as good an orator as you’ve heard. Don’t miss him the next time he is in town.

North Cobb Democrats

Monday night, Tom Barksdale and the North Cobb Democrats held their usual monthly meeting. The guest speaker was Jane Kidd, head of the Georgia Democratic Party.

Because of her campaign pledge to work to create a grassroots party in Georgia, many of the State House District Captains were in attendance, Benson Manica, Joel Cope, Melissa Pike, Will Fowlkes, Don Wilson, and me. The Cobb County Democratic meetup changed it’s normal meeting date to join the North Cobb Democrats.

Jane Kidd is an excellent speaker and motivator, less in the order of a Maynard Jackson and more like Nancy Pelosi. I don’t have to provide a great description of Jane Kidd’s speech because Benson recorded it and I will pass on the web site location for you to watch it when it is available.

Alish Morgan

I’m told that Senator Obama pointed out a very pregnant state legislator sitting in the front row before he began his speech. Alisha became a mother on Tuesday.

Staying in touch

If Senator Barack Obama or Jane Kidd came to East Cobb, South Cobb or any place in Cobb County, how would Democrats get the word out? How did all these people at Yellow Jacket Park know about the Senator’s speech? It wasn’t all word of mouth. e-mail’s, hand bills, and friends calling friends but that had a lot to do with it. That’s what got me there.

In the future, a lot of Cobb County House District Captains and later Precinct Captains will be collecting names and contact information of as many Democrats as they can find. How else would you know that the person running against Republican State Senator Judson Hill in East Cobb was a Major in the Air Force, an accountant, a teacher, and a mother? RuthE Levy.

How else would you know that important Democratic events are happening in Cobb County? Breakfasts, meetups, parades, dinners, business meetings.

How else would you know that Alisha is a mommy?

Let’s get used to staying in touch. I’ll try to get some pictures from all three events onto the Cobb County Democratic meetup this evening. democrat.meetup.com/909/photos/ democrat.meetup.com/909/
