We are hosting a silent auction and FUNdraiser, April 1!

Good morning everyone - I am forwarding a message from Shelley Riden, the fabulous district leader in GA-CD5.  She is hosting a fundraiser on April 1, and we want to give you the opportunity to contribute by helping us secure donations for the silent auction and drawings.  Please also put the event on your calendar!

See you there ~ Cheryl

Hello Everyone,

We need your help!

I am holding a silent auction in my home on April 1st, to raise funds for the Department of Peace campaign.  The funds from this auction will be split, with the lion’s share going to the national effort (via The Peace Alliance) and a smaller portion staying with the Georgia Peace Alliance, to fund our efforts here in our home state.

You can help in this effort by:

1) personally donating an item to be auctioned, or,

2) asking a business you patronize to donate

Businesses (particularly those in the service industry) are often eager to donate, as a way to advertise what they do.  Businesses that donate can include a stack of brochures or business cards at the auction table, with the donated item.

If you don’t know how to request donations from business, don’t panic!  We have pasted in below a list of talking points to help you frame your request!

Samples of items to be auctioned might be:
a work of art,
a piece of nice jewelry,
a new small or large appliance,
a week’s use of a vacation home (or timeshare),
a professional service (e.g. “I’ll paint one room of your house”)
an antique,
tickets to a concert or sporting event,
season theatre tickets (or to one event),
a day at the spa,
a full dinner, catered for six, etc
pottery

NOTE:  In addition to the silent auction, there will be a twice-hourly drawing for less costly items.  So, contributions of any size will be helpful to our effort (e.g. you could donate movie tickets).

Maybe you couldn’t go to Washington DC for the conference; maybe you can’t participate in tabling events or rallies.  But here is something you can do.  Be part of this historic movement!  Help us raise the funds to raise the banner for a Department of Peace in our nation!

To donate, or to ask about pick up, please contact Shelley Riden in Atlanta right away, by phone or email :

TALKING POINTS FOR SECURING DONATIONS:
We are hosting an event in March at the home of Jim and Shelley Riden in Piedmont Heights to raise funds for The Peace Alliance to help create a U.S. Department of Peace and Nonviolence.  We will be holding a silent auction of items and services donated and are asking for your support by donating _______________.  We expect 100 – 150 guests from the metropolitan Atlanta area.  We are proud to highlight and promote locally owned businesses that focus on and care about community.

We are part of a national organization, the Peace Alliance, which is working nationally to establish a U.S. Department of Peace and Nonviolence.

The Peace Alliance is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, organization spearheading the grass-roots movement to establish a US Department of Peace.

About the Department of Peace campaign:
·Domestically, a Department of Peace will develop policies and allocate resources to effectively reduce the levels of domestic and gang violence, child abuse and various other forms of societal discord.

·Internationally, a Department of Peace will advise the President and Congress on the most sophisticated techniques and innovative ideas regarding peace-creation among nations.  It would also research and analyze the root causes of war and other forms of violence to help prevent conflicts from escalating out-of-control in the first place.

·The legislation is currently in the House (HR 3760) and the Senate (S. 1756) and has a total of 77 Congressional co-sponsors.

Thank you for your support!
