Guy Swift where were you Thursday?

As the owner of the best accent, employing the Queen's English, in the Cobb County Democratic Committee and an East Cobb resident for many years, you would have enjoyed the evening for the information and the lack of accent in which it was delivered.

The East Cobb Democratic Alliance had its monthly 'At Issues' forum on "Terrorism: National and International Security. What should we do now?" with Dr. Hashim Gibrill

From the ECDA web page you?ll find that Dr. Hashim Gibrill is an associate professor and former Chair of the Department of Political Science, Clark Atlanta University, and an adjunct professor at Spelman College. Previously he taught at Bethune-Cookman College, Florida, the University of Maiduguri, Nigeria, and in England. He teaches courses in international relations, African politics, comparative politics, and political research methodology. Dr. Gibrill received his post-secondary education at the University of Reading, England, the University of Birmingham, England, and Atlanta University (now Clark Atlanta University).

Dr. Gibrill said that terrorism is "a serious issue, not an academic discussion."

What do we do as a nation? This problem cannot be solved by the US alone. Negotiation has to be a part of the strategy and the US does not now know how to use diplomacy. The US needs as many allies as we can get and we need to use the U.N. in order to give legitimacy to any action.

It was such a pleasure to listen to an articulate, informed teacher and story teller in a relaxed and informal discussion.

I took some pictures on my new camera and will try to add them to the Cobb County Democrats meetup web page. Look under "Photos"

The East Cobb Democratic Alliance has an excellent, easy to use "Calender" that is similar to the meetup "Calender" of events.

RuthE Levy announced that she is a candidate for State Senate District 32 in East Cobb. I better send her a contribution and start getting ready for the election.

One of the most interested and interesting people at the forum was a gentleman from Forsyth County. Establish a Democratic organization and they will come from near and far to be in good company and see how it is done.

While grassroots organizing was frequently the subject of the discussion, a lady said that electing school board members and local politicians was fine but she was more interested in issues. Democrats, like Republicans, have many issues that are a primary focus for some groups of each party, such as abortion, vouchers, the war, health care, guns, and taxes for starters. I thought for a second about how Republicans deal with issues that are important to parts of their party and I thought of Dr. Cindye.

Dr. Cindye Coates, (co-pastor of Solomon?s Porch) is running for the Georgia House of representatives. When elected, she will be the FIRST ORDAINED WOMAN IN US HISTORY TO HOLD AN ELECTED LEGISLATIVE SEAT. How exciting. (this from Pastor Kluane Spake PH.D., N.D. on Aug 8, 2004

Dr. Cindye (former Atlanta Falcons cheerleader - go team) talks and prays about her issue. She also tries to make it a reality by running in a safe district that voted for George Bush.

Dr. Cindye Coates prays during a vigil Tuesday morning at the Coverdell Legislative Office Building in support of House Bill 1, which would outlaw abortion, with no exceptions.

Dr. Cindye lost to Terry Johnson in 2004 by 307 votes.

She ran against Terry again in 2006 and lost by 356 votes.

Dr. Cindye has an issue. Terry Johnson runs on the many issues that citizens in his district tell him are important to them. Terry Johnson can only win with a grassroots organization that will have neighbors educate other neighbors (independents and moderate Republicans) about Terry and then ask for their vote.

A Terry Johnson yard sign would look great in your front yard. "Okay?"

Since you have a corner lot, how about 2?

What does Republican organization look like?

Dr. Cindye got 471 more absentee ballots in 2004 and 273 more absentee ballots in 2006 than Terry.

Do you know all your Democratic neighbors?

Does your precinct captain or district captain have their names and addresses, so they will get absentee ballots in the mail before the next election?

Molly Ivins passed away this week.

If you haven't smiled or had a very big laugh lately, read one of Molly's books.

If you want to be in touch with progressive ideas from one of the best minds of any generation, read one of Molly's books. She could always share big ideas in words that I could understand.

I saw Molly once. I had finished canvassing with Cherry Spencer-Stark one Saturday morning and she asked if I was going to Georgia State that night to listen to Molly Ivins. Cherry was going to introduce Molly. I hadn't planned on it but was grateful that Cherry asked. It was a wonderful evening. Mike Luckovich spoke too. I bought a Molly book, and got it autographed.

Whenever the Cobb Democratioc Committee needed someone to run against an unopposed Republican, Cherry was there, the happiest campaigner that I've ever met. Canvass for two hours and then have lunch for two ours.

Whenever America needed honesty, and insight filtered through Texas eyes with a Texas accent (Molly wrote with an accent. I knew how she sounded before I ever heard her.), Molly was always there.

Speaking of happy campaigners, the Cobb County Democrats meetup web page has a photo section. It will soon have pictures from the last election. Beth Farokhi took a lot of pictures and RuthE will have pictures from the last and forthcoming election.

Who is your district captain? There will be pictures and names soon.

Next Saturday, "Family day at the Capitol" and 2nd Saturday Breakfast.

Check the calender on the meetup website for more information.
