Intolerance is necessarily bad! And the fear that leads us to that intolerance.
Using The Cameron Method for many years working with people to change inner attitudes I've found all negative emotions grow out of fear. If we see another as different from us in some negative way, (they're strange, wear strange clothes, have wrong beliefs, worship the wrong God) we can forget our common humanity.
They become "The Other," and escalating, it becomes alright, even righteous, to destroy them—from shunning or condemning, to outright murder or war.
If we fear, we believe punishment or attack will solve our problems. We attack, not realizing we're teaching them to respond the same way. A circle of escalating pain and death.
We must mature to stay out of Fear and learn to respond first with empathy, then responsibility. Remember empathy or love unites while fear divides and destroys us all.
