Sander Bellman -- Support Senator Feingold's Censure Resolution

The Senate must support Russ
Feingold's resolution to censure President Bush for his
warrantless domestic spying and continued defiance of
Congress and the Constitution of the United States. I find
it embarrassing and unconscionable that only two Senators have so
far co-sponsored the censure resolution - Tom Harkin and Barbara
Boxer. The remainder of the other gutless Democratic
Senators are not deserving of my support nor respect.
Well, here are my own censure
resolutions:
-
I hereby resolve that I
shall give no money, or offer sweat equity to any incumbent
U.S. Senator who does not co-sponsor
the Feingold censure resolution, nor to any other Senate
candidate who does not declare his/her support for the
resolution.
-
Any time I receive a mail or
email request for support from such a Senator or Senate
candidate, I shall write back saying that not until he/she
supports the resolution, should he/she expect any support from
me.
I generally support
the statements of the current Chair of the Cobb County Democratic
Committee, especially with respect to who should be trusted
with national security. HOWEVER, I do NOT support his
assertion below that "... Senator Feingold jumped the gun on the whole censure thing."
In fact, in my opinion, this was the perfect time for such a
censure. Just when would be a more appropriate time?
Should we wait until Bush starts opening up concentration camps or
closing down non-Christian-fundamentalist churches, mosques and
synagogues? Or, should we wait until he closes down media
outlets and jailing those that disagree with him?
This is the perfect time for
such a censure. It is the least that should be done when
the President violates the law and says he will continue doing
so. The President has "thumbed his nose" at
Congress, the people of the United States, and the rule of
law. He must be censured or we will begin sliding down the
slippery slope to a dictatorship.
I encourage the readers of this web
page, as I did, to call Senators Chambliss and Isakson and tell
them you want them to co-sponsor the censure resolution.
Write and call other states' senators to sign on as well.
