The environment in the US today against free belief and for one faith theocracy pauses me and makes me suspicious of the motivation for a class on Bible study in public schools. While I was quoted correctly in the article “Bible studies class pushed for schools “, I also said that a class entitled “Religious Influence on Literature” would be appropriate. The class should use many documents from many of the worlds valuable religions such as the Vedas, the Koran, the Bible, the New Testament, etc. and be broad based to instill an understanding and respect for the valid
contributions to literature by the world’s community of faith. To teach just the Bible’s influence fosters myopic understanding and undermines real education for a suspicious purpose of destroying our nation's freedom of belief as guaranteed by the First Amendments separation of church and state.
