Mike Holzknecht -- North Cobb, Hillary, and More
This entry was posted on 10/25/2005 10:00 AM and is filed under North Cobb, Hillary Clinton.
Monday night, (October 24th) the
North Cobb Democrats put together a wonderful evening at JP’s
Restaurant on Canton Highway. Among the 85 guests were visitors
from East Cobb, South Cobb, and about a dozen from Cherokee
County.
The guest speaker was Anne Bartoletti, President of the North
Fulton Democrats. She talked about grassroots organizing and the
history of the North Fulton Democrats. After her passionate and
inspiring speech, everyone was ready to knock on doors. I’d
rather hear Anne speak than Hillary (which I did the night
before).
Vince Exley, Chairperson of the North Cobb Democrats, selected a
great location (if only Piccadilly’s was this good a location
for a meeting). Other guests were G.W Hall, Beverly McMurray,
Barbara Delano from the Cobb Democratic Committee, and from the
East Cobb Democratic Alliance were Sander Bellman, Frieda Smith,
Nancy Scott, among others.
A retired Army Colonel led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Candidates from East Cobb, Zachary Smith (House District 41 and
Darryl Wilson (House District 45) spoke briefly.
If G.W. had this much support when he ran against Bobby Franklin,
Bobby would be out of a job.
Janna and Stu Zonder, (Left
of Center Musical Satire) in the "Capitol Step’s"
style put some new lyrics to familiar tunes. They ended the
evening with (This Land
is Your Land, by Woody Guthrie,) as everyone sang
gloriously along. Dan Fox provided the microphones and speakers.
Rumor has it that Janna and Stu (now, I believe that they used to
perform professionally) may record some of their tunes.
The food was great. The company was wonderful and now about the
Junior Senator from New York.
Sunday night (October 23rd,) Hillary Rodham Clinton was the guest
speaker at the 18th Annual Leo & Berry Eizenstat Memorial
Lecture at Ahavath Achim Synagogue in Atlanta. In previous years,
there have been four Nobel Prize winners who have given the
lecture.
Stuart Eizenstat, who worked in the Carter and Clinton
administrations, introduced Senator Clinton. The lecture series
honors his late father and uncle.
I’m told that this is a "Conservative" synagogue. It
is a truly lovely building that in places looks much like a
beautiful museum. The crowd appeared to be standing room only and
there were over three thousand.
Sander Bellman, Pat Chapman, Roberto Moraes, Patti Delano and
friend, Susan Waski, and Anne Bartoletti were in the left front of
the bottom floor. I’m told that Cobb County had a large presence
but walking around and chatting was difficult.
Senator Clinton spoke for and hour without a teleprompter. If she
used notes, it was hard to tell. She answered written questions
with ease, intelligence, and grace.
The consesus was that she was as brilliant as she was warm and
friendly.
