Beth Day -- Women Already Know - an open letter to Sen. Judson Hill (R-32)

Dear
Sen. Hill,
I
oppose the grossly misnamed "Women's Right to Know"
act.
No
one is *for* abortion. And I would encourage you and everyone I know
not to have sexual relations unless they are prepared to support and
care for a child for the rest of their lives.
But
to treat women as if they have not fully considered decisions about
their pregnancies — about their own bodies and their own futures —
is demeaning and degrading.
Perhaps
you will also dictate that women considering abortions must see
slide shows about the economic outlook for single mothers? Or hear
talks from single moms about how society demands that they work but
disparages them for leaving their children at day care? Better yet,
give them a full course in the declining level of services local,
state and federal governments offer to support single mothers and
children of low-income families.
Now
that's something women have a right to know. And while this is all
happening so fast that many Georgia women don't know about it, they
will soon catch on and vote you all out of office for it.
I
respect your religious convictions that abortion is wrong and defend
your right to have those convictions. But I will never acknowledge
that your religion should dictate choices for women you've never met
and children you have no intention of supporting in any way.
