I was reading an article (interview with Seymour Hersh) titled “We’ve Been Taken Over by a Cult” late last night  It was a horrible read with all the ums ahs that someone would have if they were talking.  I found it hard to finish, but like being drawn to a train wreck I had to go on. (Editor's note - this link at at Democracynow.org contains the full transcript as well as a video, to make it easier to follow). I think what I connected with was an underlying sense of fear. Here is a man far more knowledgeable than I, who pretty much verbalized an underlying anxiety that I have had and not been able to finger. I believe that my thoughts may be even deeper than his. Sometimes I feel like we have been shaken awake a little too late.

I watched the Ukraine demand to have the man they elected put in office and in 2000 we just whimpered a little and let them have it. Now, they have it and they won’t let go very easily. They have control over the minds of many Americans, through a box that we all have in all our homes, constantly filling our minds with what a few want us to think.  We work excruciating hours, leaving little time to do the work necessary to find out what is really going on. Not that most of us care what is really going on, it is easier just to be spoon-fed information.

We don’t really care what is going on, unless our children die or we lose our homes or we are so hungry that we have nothing left to lose but fight. Fortunately, we are far from this situation (I hope) that exists in most of the world. I guess what is so sad is that in some places that situation exists, and it is our fault.

Because we were asleep at the helm, we allowed a man to take control of our country. This man had more people executed in his tenure as governor than any other person in the history of the US (pro life?). A man who fabricated lies about his Republican opponent to gain control (think McCain). The war President who was AWOL and nobody questions it. A man who had his friend (Gonzales) get him out of having to do jury duty so that his DUI wouldn’t become public knowledge. The man whose Brother was the governor of the one state that held the balance (in) the elections that failed America. The man whose friends control the most popular media in this country.

Statistically speaking, the election was a tie.  There was no way a winner could have been determined in Florida in 2000. Those of us who know anything about statistics know that the range of error in those numbers could not have given us an answer.  We rolled over and let them have it. This is scary, because we have a man in power that will do anything to stay in control. We have a voting system that can be manipulated and there seems to be only a little attempt to change that.

If Americans knew the truth about what could be going on, they would be infuriated. But if they are lead to believe everything is OK….. Well, lets see. They are looking at changing the Constitution to allow naturalized citizens to run for President. According to an article I read, Democrats will ok this if Republicans help kill the 22nd amendment barring 3rd terms (can you say King George and Prince Jebb?). If Democrats allow the 22nd amendment to go, then we are really screwed. That would be the nail that we put in our own head.  As the republicans, and in particular the neocons (who will stop at nothing), consolidate power and increase their control over American minds, we Democrats give them a way to stay in power forever and have it look legitimate.  If Bush only won this last election because he is a war President, what if he has continuous wars and no limit to the amount of times he can run for President? You don’t think that could happen? There have been other democracies too.  Did they exist forever?  Nothing lasts forever, but I would hate to see it go on my watch.
